GOJO NO TOKU - Five Virtues of the Ideal Person

Statue of Confucius on Chongming Island in Shanghai (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confucianism)

These five Confucian virtues are repeated at the end of every Yoshin Ryu Kenjutsu class (Sunday @ 10:30 AM) at Seibukan Canada.  I've posted these up here for students, so if you choose to, you'll have an easier time following along with the rest of us.  I've also provided some rough translations (I'll be updating those a bit later . . .)

Jin, itsukushimi yasashii kokoro o motsukoto.
(To be gentle and compassionate.)

Gi, tadashii kokoro o motsukoto.
(To possess the proper spirit.)

Rei, kansha no kokoro o motsukoto.
(To know gratitude.)

Chi, satori wakimae no kokoro o motsukoto.
(To be humble and wise.)
